Backtesting Order Block Win Rates by Timeframe: H4 vs H1 vs M15

The Study Design
We backtested 180 order block trades across 3 pairs (EUR/USD, GBP/USD, XAU/USD) over 4 months:
- 60 trades on H4 order blocks (4-hour timeframe)
- 60 trades on H1 order blocks (1-hour timeframe)
- 60 trades on M15 order blocks (15-minute timeframe)
All trades used identical SMC methodology: OB identification, FVG confirmation, HTF bias alignment, Kill Zone timing, and 1% risk management.

XAU/USD had the highest win rate across ALL timeframes — gold respects order blocks more consistently than any other pair.
Why Higher Timeframes Are More Reliable
1. Larger Institutional Orders
H4 order blocks represent larger institutional positions. When price returns to an H4 OB, the institutional orders waiting there are bigger and more likely to cause a reaction.
2. Less Noise
M15 charts contain a lot of "noise" — small moves that look like order blocks but are just random price fluctuations. H4 charts filter out this noise.
3. Stronger Displacement
H4 displacement candles are typically 40-80 pips, confirming genuine institutional urgency. M15 displacements of 10-15 pips may just be normal market movement.
4. More Stop Loss Room
H4 OBs give you wider stop losses (25-40 pips) which are less likely to be hit by random wicks. M15 OBs with 10-15 pip stops are easily stopped out.
When M15 Order Blocks DO Work
M15 order blocks can be profitable when they meet these conditions:

The Timeframe Hierarchy Rule
W1 → Macro direction (weekly trend)
D1 → Daily bias (buy or sell today?)
H4 → Key levels (where are the OBs and FVGs?) ← PRIMARY ENTRY TIMEFRAME
H1 → Structure confirmation (BOS or CHoCH?)
M15 → Entry timing (when exactly to enter) ← SECONDARY, only with H4 alignment
